We keep data collection to a minimum. This policy explains what we process when you visit managic.software, download Subtitle Managic, or buy a license.

Data you provide

We do not offer user accounts on this website. You only share personal data when you:

• Buy a license — checkout is handled by our payment provider Polar (see below). We receive the information needed to issue and support your license (e.g. your email address and order details), not your full payment-card data.
• Contact us — if you email us, we process your message and contact details to answer your request.

Data collected automatically

When you visit the site or download a build, our hosting provider records standard server log data (IP address, date and time, requested file, referrer, browser/OS). This is used to operate and secure the service and is not used to identify you.

Cookies & analytics

We use a self-hosted instance of the open-source analytics software Matomo — running on our own server, operated by us — to understand how many people visit the site and which downloads are used. By default Matomo runs without cookies: your IP address is shortened before it is stored, no visitor profile is built, and the data cannot be used to identify you. Analytics data never leaves our infrastructure and is never shared with third parties.

If you explicitly allow it via the banner on the site, Matomo additionally sets a first-party analytics cookie so returning visits can be counted more accurately. Declining has no drawbacks. To withdraw a given consent, delete this site’s cookies and site data in your browser.

The desktop app sends no usage telemetry; it contacts our services only to validate a license key when you enter one.

Processors & third parties

• Polar (polar.sh) — Merchant of Record for all purchases. Polar processes payment and billing data and issues invoices and license keys. See Polar’s privacy policy.
• Hosting — the website and downloads are served by our hosting provider in Switzerland/the EU under a data-processing agreement.

License keys & downloads

Buying a license generates a license key (via Polar) that unlocks the app. When the app validates a key, we process the key and minimal technical data needed to confirm the entitlement. Installers are downloaded directly from our servers.

Retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above or as required by law (e.g. accounting records). Server logs are retained for a short period and then deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU GDPR, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and objection. To exercise these rights, contact privacy@managic.software. You may also lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

We may update this policy as our services evolve. The current version always applies and is dated above.
